Im after a bit of advice here. Over the years Ive bought enough WWE, WCW, WCCW, USWA TV Sets so im kinda after advice on what other promotions are worth getting hold of.
Ive been told Mid South had some awesome stuff with Ted Dibiase and apparently Jim Duggan in UWF was nothing like the character he played in WWE if thats true so any ideas.

I'd definitely recommend Jim Duggan in UWF. It's awesome stuff!
I'd also recommend stuff for IWA-MS, and even OVW. I have OVW 2004/2005 and it's amazing stuff to see. Makes you think that there could've been an amazing tag division in WWE but Vince & co messed up big time!

One of my favorite territories of all time is still UWF. The TV show still holds up as a very exciting watch and I would definitely recommend it. I'd also check out Memphis early 80's, as well as World Class....some good stuff there too.

Blasphemy! :o How can you forget about the days of Florida wrestling and those historic battles between the Windham family and the demonic forces of Kevin Sullivan? That stuff had me glued to the set as a kid.

The thing is here in england growing up apart from the British wrestling which looking back now seems a bit naff apart from WWF and NWA we got WCCW and USWA so we didnt get any others. I remember a interview with HBK saying he watched southwest championship wrestling.
Florida Ive heard of but dunno which big names were their. I think I read somewhere their was some battle of the belts with Barry Windham in I think possibly vs Ron Garvin but unsure.

LOL!! I didn't forget my brother, I've just always had a hard time finding stuff from that era on DVD. I've collected and traded for years, but it seems that era escapes me. I have some discs here and there, but nothing complete like most other territories.
C'mon now...you know I love that!! There's not a time that goes by where I drive by the Miami Beach Convention Center and dont think of Dusty and Sullivan lol. Bugsy McGraw 4 Life :notworthy:

Is it true that Florida aired a ton of NWA title matches? Apparently the Brisco/Funk title change for the NWA belt aired on one of their shows.

Well during the era I was watching, it was mostly Flair as NWA champion. He would come down regularly for title defenses against Dusty, Windham, Mulligan, Luger, etc. I don't really remember too many big NWA title defenses on TV, with the exception of the 3 Battle of the Belt cards that were aired. I do remember that title switch you're talking about from watching some of my older footage, but I think they mostly only aired clips...not the entire matches.

Sorry it took me so long to respond! I forgot about this thread. There was several volumes of Classic Championship Wrestling (I think that was the title) and I believe it was hosted by either Mike Graham or Dusty. In my opinion, they really didn't do the territory much justice. It was more like a quick recap and clipped matches. To get a decent feel of the territory, I would probably get the 3 "Battle of The Belts" shows that were broadcast locally, and readily available in decent quality. I know the WWE Classics on-demand service has shown a good amount of Florida broadcasts also.

Thats the one. Mike Graham hosted it. Sadly I sold the 2 vols I had ages ago. Im looking into getting florida but only really into the ones that had big matches featured like when Flair and race were there defending the title.
Once you have wcw/wwf/uswa/wccw/smw you kinda run out of options alough so im moving on territory now. Got mid atlantic sorted and mid south ill get later so wondered about florida.

Totally understand! As much as I love the Florida days, I have yet to find a decent set on DVD. Race as champion is a bit before my time, but I was definitely watching as a fan when Flair was champ. He would probably be on TV several times a year, but if anything it was against local jobbers in squash matches. The Battle of the Belts shows did feature him against Barry Windham, Lex Luger and I can't remember the 3rd guy...I think Wahoo McDaniel?!?
Even though I love Florida, one of my favorite promotions is still the Mid-South/UWF. I'm a total mark from that time period, and I can't stress to you enough how good that TV was, especially UWF. I think you'll definitely enjoy it.
If you get bored of the territories, you can always do Japan. I'm slowly starting to go through All Japan in the 90's....great stuff, but I know it's not for everyone.

Ive yet to get mid south. I remember years ago getting a tape called barnetts classics and it had some Dibiase/Duggan match. Was pretty good compared to their wwf matches.
I might get them in a few month. Not sure on florida. I want battle of the belts cos flair vs windham is on that but looking at a traders florida it didnt look that interesting apart from the classics florida 4 disk set.

The Barnett set is excellent, but even the actual TV sets are great. You get to see plenty of stars early in their careers. The list is incredible.
If you ever have a question on any DVDs or whatever, feel free to let me know. I have my list posted at lour25.webs.com if you ever need a reference.
